Common Wedding Planning Mistakes

Posted

“To err is human”, as the saying goes, but when it comes to planning your wedding at Tribeca Rooftop + 360° in NYC, there are certain errors you don’t want to make, especially if they’re easily preventable!

Going Over Budget (Or Not Setting One At All)

While you may want to spare no expense for your big day, that’s not always realistic. Make sure you know up front how much you’re willing to spend on your wedding, and stick to that number. Factor in things like your attire, your entertainment, flowers and decor, your photographer, transportation to and from the wedding, invitations, party favors, and of course the venue to host your wedding.

Of course there are more details you’ll need to add to your budget as well, but once you know exactly which details and services you’ll be using you will have a better idea of what things cost, and how much you’re willing to spend on them.

Once you come up with your budget, stick to it, no matter how tempting it may be to go over budget. Remember, it’s one of the most important days of your life, but it’s only one day!

Picking Your Date Before Selecting A Venue

While in an ideal world, you could pick a date and your dream wedding venue would be automatically available, it doesn’t always work out that way. That’s why we suggest you book your venue before you choose your date. This way you can get a date close to your desired date, (if not the actual date). Once you have your wedding venue booked, then you can start planning accordingly, and announce the big date to everyone on your guest list with save the date cards!

Not Familiarizing Yourself With Your Contracts

Once you start planning your big day, you’re going to get a lot of contracts. Everyone from your event venue to your photographer will likely have a contract for you to sign.

Make sure you know what you’re signing up for (and paying for!) before you cross your t’s and dot your i’s. This can save you a lot of trouble down the road, so you don’t have unrealistic expectations or get hit with fees for ‘extras’ you didn’t realize were extra until after the fact.

Forgoing A Backup Plan

Are you planning on having a rooftop ceremony at Tribeca Rooftop + 360° in NYC? Unfortunately, nobody can control nature. Be sure to think about inclement weather when deciding on your venue. What if it’s rainy? Will you have tents available for guests to congregate under? Or would you prefer to bring the whole soiree indoors? The same applies to excessive heat. Consider cooling stations or an indoor ceremony for some of the dog days of summer.

Remember, wedding planning should be fun - but it can be overwhelming, too. Try not to rush the process, and pay attention to details along the way. This will help you not only stay organized, but it will help you avoid these and other wedding planning pitfalls.
